10:00 AM - 11:00 AM EDT- Animals
- Vegan
Event Description
Please join us as we bear witness to the pigs at Conestoga 'Meat' Packers.
LOCATION: Conestoga 'Meat' Packers Slaughterhouse -
Drive to 313 Menno Street, Woolwich, Ontario. Park on LONSDALE Road. To avoid getting a ticket, park about 100m past the slaughterhouse, past the sign that says no parking.
The lives of more than 24,000 beings are taken at this slaughterhouse just outside of Kitchener every week. Soon they will be killing up to FIFTY THOUSAND pigs per week. These pigs NEED our voices, our documentation, and our determination for change. Please share this event, ‘invite’ Facebook users and bring family and friends with you to bear witness.
If this is your first time attending a slaughterhouse vigil please scroll to the bottom of the event description for information specifically for you.
Please note that there is no public transport close to the slaughterhouse. If this is your first time coming to this slaughterhouse feel free to let us know you are coming so that we can give you contact information in case you get lost.
POST VIGIL:
You are welcome to join us after the vigil for debriefing and support. Depending on the preferences of attendees, we will go to a park, restaurant or cafe, or even someone's home.
WHAT TO WEAR:
Dress for the weather. There is no shade and nothing to break the wind where we bear witness.
PLEASE NOTE:
We are a love-based group who believe that we can achieve more through compassion than through force. Violence, drugs, or negativity are not welcome at vigils. This includes anger vocalized to truck drivers. Although we are all angry at the trucks and what they are doing, we gather to show empathy for the animals, spread compassion, and raise awareness.
"When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to (they) who suffer, and try to help (them)." -Leo Tolstoy
IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME AT A SLAUGHTERHOUSE VIGIL:
If you have any questions or if you are nervous about attending a vigil and would like to talk to someone about your fears or concerns please use the message feature to contact us. We've all experienced bearing witness for the first time. We know that it can be intimidating and scary, especially if you don't know anyone. People have many different reactions to bearing witness. Sometimes people can't stop crying, sometimes people feel angry and sometimes people feel numb and don't react emotionally at all. We will be there to support you and stand beside you (or give you some space if that is what you need.)
Please read the Save Movement Code of Conduct before attending your first slaughterhouse vigil:
