Event Description
Event hosted by Northbay Vegan Events.

Join Compassionate Living for vegan cheese and chai as we hear from Dr. Jina Shah about the ethical teachings of Jainism, a spiritual philosophy and religion rooted in India,  with similarities to yoga and Buddhist philosophy. She'll explain how veganism is a natural extension of the Jain philosophy and way of life.

Dr. Jina Shah was raised in a Gujarati (Indian) Jain family in the US and grew up in a culture rich with opportunities to learn Jainism and meet Jain friends locally, nationally and internationally. She has been vegetarian all her life. She turned vegan in college after learning about the ways that the dairy industry is connected to the meat industry and inextricably linked to animal suffering and death. She became a family doctor and trained in general preventive medicine. In recent years, she has worked within the Jain community to raise awareness about veganism, emphasizing compassion to animals and the benefits to human health.

Angela Glasser will demo and give samples of homemade almond chai and bring some homemade vegan cheese. Compassionate Living will provide crackers, bread, and samples of a variety of vegan cheeses. If you have any favorite vegan cheese feel free to bring some to share!
