Event Description

• What we'll do

Katie the hen is 72 weeks old. She is “spent”. She has passed her life in a so-called “enriched cage” in a British farm. There, she has had about as much usable space as an A4 sheet of paper. Unlike her brothers, who were ground alive at a day old, she is only now about to be sent away for slaughter.

Katie's tragic story is common. In 2017, there are an estimated 31 billion land vertebrate animals being farmed worldwide. Of these, 22 billion are in factory farmed conditions. Come and get involved with some activism for one of the world’s most effective charities working on reducing animal suffering, The Humane League! Watch the video below to see how THL helps millions of cute chickens like Katie!

Organisers from The Humane League - UK, Effective Animal Altruism London, LSE Effective Altruism Society are teaming up to bring you this event! Although it is on a student campus, you DO NOT have to be student to attend.

As a group, we will be getting active, using social media, writing letters, and conducting some phone calls, to persuade THL's campaign targets to commit to going cage-free. And all the while, we’ll have vegan snacks and drinks for you to enjoy (but feel free to bring your own too!). Those who attend will be challenged to complete as many actions as possible! The individuals who complete the most actions will be rewarded for their amazing efforts to help animals in need with prizes! These will include an official THL t-shirt in a size of your choice. Please try to bring internet-enabled devices (laptop, tablet, smart phone, etc), as some of the actions will involve the use of the internet. If you can’t bring one, there will still be plenty to do, however!

Please message me or post below if you have any questions regarding the event! I hope to see you there!
