Event Description
Pediatrician and Founder of OneWorldEating, Keith Somers MD will discuss the significant role and impact that food has on children's health and how a whole foods plant-based diet is the ideal foundation for setting a child on a good path towards a healthy future.
Dr. Somers is a native Pittsburgher who has been practicing pediatrics for over 25 years. Keith has been an active staff member at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and was a founding group member in the creation of Children’s Community Pediatrics (CCP). He has held numerous leadership positions in the community including as a Board member of the Jewish Family and Children’s Services, Executive Committees of CHP and MWH and President of Transitional Infant Care (now part of the Childrens Home). He has served as Lead Physician for the CCP/GIL practice and on the Executive Committee of CCP. Most recently, he is a member of the Executive Committee of Let’s Move Pittsburgh and serves as an advisor for Camp Kesem program at Carnegie Mellon University.
Over the years, Dr. Somers has developed an interest in the relationship between health and the environment. To that end, in 2007, Keith and CCP-GIL received recognition for building the 1st Green Pediatric Office in Western Pennsylvania, which was recognized by the Green Building Alliance. In addition to health and the environment, he has an interest in the significant role and impact food has on children’s health. Keith received a certificate in Plant Based Nutrition from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies at Cornell University and most recently founded a website, One World Eating to promote plant based eating.
