Event Description
Event hosted by Meatless Meetup.

Come for a short talk by renowned dietitian Vesanto Melina, followed by questions and discussion. Bring some vegan snacks to share. Entrance by donation.

Take note: While we are to be sure big fans of the plant-based diet, everyone is welcome at our events, from omnivore to vegan.

What health risks do we create for ourselves with all this consumption of animal products? Vesanto will discuss the health effects on children living near feedlot operations and pulmonary effects on hog farm workers. She'll discuss the links between different dietary patterns (plant-based, omnivore, near-vegetarian) and the risk of conditions that have tragic health consequences for so many North Americans.

Vesanto Melina, Registered Dietitian, is the lead author of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ position paper on vegetarian diets and an award winning author.

This event is held at Vancouver Co-housing, pictured below, an intentional co-housing community.

What to bring? Snacks to share! What qualifies as a snack? Fruit, veggies and dip, cookies, popcorn, cake, pie....if you sometimes eat it between meals, it qualifies! People appreciate it if you bring an ingredient list for those with food sensitivities.

Everyone from omnivore to vegan is welcome to attend but please make sure the snack you bring contains no animal products--that means no meat, dairy, whey, gelatin, eggs, and seafood--so that everyone can partake.
