Event Description

If you've never given a pig a belly rub or devoted a morning to farm chores, this is your opportunity to do both, while enjoying the company of fellow animal lovers and vegetable enthusiasts.

The Society for Animal Rescue and Adoption (SARA) provides rehabilitation to abused or abandoned domestic and factory farm animals on its 120-acre preserve. On Saturdays, SARA invites volunteers to help clean enclosures and feed, groom, and socialize the animals.

Wear your oldest, grungiest work jeans and boots, and be sure to check the weather forecast, as we will be spending the day outdoors.

Please bring plenty of water, a plant-based sack lunch, and any snacks you'd like to share with the group. The animals will be happy to eat any leftover food you have at home or any treats you'd like to bring for them. On our last visit, the donkeys were eager to join our picnic, and we learned that they're especially fond of apples.

We'll organize a ride-share from a central location in San Antonio for anyone who'd like to take a (very short) road trip together.
